Classroom Observations
On March 4th and 27th, 2015, I completed two observations of literacy lessons for a 1st grade teacher and a 5th grade teacher. The teachers were located at different elementary schools in different counties. The 1st grade observation took place during their scheduled whole group literacy block. The lesson I observed was an hour lesson on main idea and supporting details. The 5th grade observation took place during one of the teacher’s scheduled reading blocks. The lesson I observed was a 30 minutes vocabulary review activity. The purpose of these observations is to observe the students, the teacher, and the content of the lesson. They were not conducted to evaluate the teacher. These observations provide support, recommendations, and resources for the classroom teachers to use within their own instruction.
